The Food

We are very happy to say, we have become well known for our food at The Punch Bowl Crosthwaite, and we hope to play alongside with our menu at The Plough. Chef Chris Meredith oversees both places, with Peter Howarth on site at The Punch Bowl, and Euan Davidson at The Plough, and between them we have a wealth of experience and talent with past Michelin Stars thrown in to boot. Peter’s menu is a good blend of the pick of seasonal and local produce, mixed with simple, wholesome dishes, a bit of imagination and a touch of elegance. This is food you choose from the menu, not because you should, or from lack of choice, but because it really is something you feel like eating. What comes from the kitchen to your table is a dish that is pleasing to the eye, tasty and hearty. The overwhelming majority of our critics (we mean our customers) say what the menu promises, the food delivers, and it doesn’t leave you strangled by the bill.

“I want that dish, but I don’t want it with that or that, could I have some of this with it instead."

We wanted the menu at The Plough to be individual rather than just a reproduction of our own, or that of other local places. Also, a menu that will bring people back again and again, without them struggling for choice or eating the same dish again; unless of course they wish to! So Chris and Euan produced a small plate menu, with a selection of side dishes. The choice is local, British and traditional, but also contemporary, European, Oriental, Asian, and all delicious. Put dishes together yourself, or pick one of everything; gone is the need to steal a bit off your partners plate, chew your lip over the choice, or ask the waiter “Would the chef mind if ??????”
